By William Soquet, Editor-in-Chief

Winning isn’t everything, but it certainly is something. Here’s a look at who took overall Grand Championships this weekend, and what it means in historical context.

North Carolina

State Contest: In the only competition held in the state this year, Lake Norman Showformance came from a fourth-place finish at last year’s event to a first-place finish here, beating four-time defending champions Voyager Academy. The win was Lake Norman’s third overall, as they previously won the West Regional in 2018 and 2019. Showformance is the fifth different winner of the North Carolina State Show Choir Contest.

Oklahoma

Jenks: As expected, Broken Arrow Tiger Rhythm was the clear winner of the day. Tiger Rhythm remains the only group to win Trochella, now establishing a streak of three consecutive wins. Broken Arrow picked up four wins this year, the most in program history, and did so in four different states as well. Their 19 recorded wins ties them with programs like Brandon, Auburn, and Manchester heading into next season.

Regional

FAME Finals: Blue Valley Chamber Singers won Best Vocals, Best Choreography, and a trio of smaller captions to take the win over Norris, Northwest Rankin and Grand Island Northwest. It was their third win of the year, bringing their overall total to sixth. They are the 20th different winner of FAME’s season-ending event, which has been called a handful of things (the Classic, Cup, and Jubilee among them).
