Yet again, this week’s competition in Missouri brought twists, turns, and surprises in the placements. Nevada Soundsational Singers and Treble Effects hosted 17 groups on Saturday, including both middle school and high school, and the day had some proper shake ups between prelims and finals. Most of the divisions were fairly small, with one to three choirs in each.
In the middle school division, Carthage dominated with their mixed group, Sound Machine, taking first place and Best Vocals and their treble group, Sound Intensity, taking third place and Best Band. Neosho’s Wildcat Singers came in second with Best Choreography.
Mt. Vernon Vocal Motion took their first division win of the season with their Bonnie and Clyde show in 3A, followed by El Dorado Springs and East Newton. Cabool Rhythm in Blue competed in their own 2A division. Atchison Adrenaline competed was another group that competed alone in its division but still earned a place in finals, and Josh Stone earned the Best Bass Soloist award.
Despite making up 2/3 of the single-gender field, Webb City was unable to take the division win, with its groups coming in second and third. Carthage Suite Sounds won the division, and both that group and Bella Voce made finals.
In 5A, three schools competed for the top division placements. Carthage Soundwave took home top honors in the daytime round, followed by Webb City Singers and Ray-Pec Rush. All three groups qualified for the evening round.
Moving into finals, six groups were given another opportunity to give their all onstage and compete for the top spots of the competition. After this final round of performances, the placements stood as follows:
5th Runner Up: Atchison Adrenaline
4th Runner Up: Ray-Pec Rush
3rd Runner Up: Webb City Bella Voce
2nd Runner Up: Carthage Suite Sounds
1st Runner Up: Carthage Soundwave
Grand Champion: Webb City Singers
Between prelims and finals, Carthage Suite Sounds managed to stay ahead of Webb City Bella Voce, but Singers overtook Soundwave for the first place title. In prelims, Soundwave took Best Vocals and tied with Singers for Best Choreography. However, in finals, Singers was awarded Best Choreography while Soundwave kept Best Vocals and won Best Band.
This season in Missouri has been full of shake-ups and surprises, and this weekend was no exception. Most groups will soon be nearing the end of their season, so they’re really kicking their performances into high gear. Singers and Soundwave, along with their sister choirs, have had really good seasons thus far, but will they be able to finish as strong as they started? Paths diverge next week as Webb City heads to the Platte County Showcase of Excellence, and the week after, when Carthage competes at Raymore-Peculiar Battle for the Belt. Stay tuned for updates on the comps that will close out the season in Missouri!
