Texas Show Choir Rankings: 1-5

By Kortney Minnick, Texas contributor

The Texas show choir season is coming to a close, with the bulk of the competitions over and done. Only one competition remains, the Capital City Classic on April 5. That being said, it is a good time to release Texas circuit rankings. A future installment will cover the top five groups in the state.

How are ensembles ranked?

Groups are ranked on multiple factors, including their placements, history as an ensemble, and personal opinion. Opinions from show choir members and experts from inside and outside of the Texas circuit are also considered.

5th: Timber Creek "Aerodynamix"

Aerodynamix, colloquially known as ADX, from Timber Creek High School in Fort Worth had a solid run in the main run of their season. ADX took home second at Cowtown, only placing behind number two-ranked Pantheon. They just missed finals at Lone Star, but have one more competition next weekend at the Capital City Classic. That will be a true chance to shine at the end of the season.

4th: Fort Worth Southwest "Southwest Effect"

Southwest Effect has had a breakout season this year, placing second at the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Executive Showcase in South Dakota and at the LD Bell HEB Invitational in-state. Effect also made finals at a deep Southlake Carroll Showcase event and was one of the featured choirs in the SoCal Collab in late March. Looking forward, the ensemble is competing at the Capital City Classic and is one of the favorites for Grand Champion, having led the prelims round at that event last year.

3rd: L.D. Bell "The Bell System"

Bell System placed third at all three contests they attended this season - the North Texas Invitational, Lone Star Invitational and Southlake Carroll Showdown. Bell System also took on the challenge of hosting a new competition this season. Their 2025 campaign was a worthy follow-up effort to a breakout 2024 season that saw them win North Texas and challenge many of the top dogs in the state.

2nd: Fossil Ridge "Pantheon"

Pantheon had a breakout season this year, placing third at Cowtown Classic, first at North Texas Invitational, second at Lone Star Invitational and lastly fifth at Southlake Carroll Showdown. The win at North Texas was the program's first, a great achievement for a program that's only in its fourth year of competition. Although their season is over, their impact on Texas show choir is not. This program will continue to grow and flourish in the coming seasons.

1st: Keller High "Blue Lights"

Keller Blue Lights have ended their season undefeated against in-state opponents. The only in-state competition they didn’t win Grand Champion at was the LD Bell HEB Invitational, where they fell to Jenks Trojanaires out of Oklahoma. They also placed sixth out-of-state at the Omaha South Classic. The remainder of their season consisted of Grand Champions at Cowtown Classic and Lone Star Invitational. This was a strong year for Blue Lights, as the Zach Steele-led outfit firmly set themselves as the best Texas show choir. However, even at the top, there is still room for shows to grow, and that is exactly what Blue Lights will aim to do.
