Southern Show Choir Devolves Into Chaos

Another weekend of the 2025 southern show choir season is over and another set of results are in. This time, many fewer choirs stood pat compared to choirs that made big jumps forward or backward.

MADISON CENTRAL DEEP SOUTH CLASSIC

The competition of the weekend certainly delivered. As the clock neared 1 a.m. in the morning, the final results were read aloud at Madison Central: a complete Oak Mountain sweep with Brandon at first runner-up and Grenada following at second runner-up, all three spots being close and highly competitive. Oak Mountain’s womens group also jumped Northwest Rankin in finals to garner a third runner-up placement. A couple other notes from this competition include Clinton Christian Academy winning the 1A division and Brandon’s womens group taking both vocals and show design from Oak Mountain in the Single-Gender prelims, showing how tight the competition was. Final results are as below (five finalists):

GC) Oak Mountain “Singers” (Sweep)

1RU) Brandon “Brio”

2RU) Grenada “Visions”

3RU) Oak Mountain “The Muses”

4RU) Northwest Rankin “The Ambassadors”

1st in 4A) Oak Mountain “Singers”

Only group in 3A) Northwest Rankin “The Ambassadors”

1st in 1A) Clinton Christian Academy “Extreme”

1st in Single Gender) Oak Mountain “The Muses”

OAK GROVE MAGNOLIA INVITATIONAL

Adding some interest to this weekend was the Oak Grove Magnolia Invitational. While the top placements weren’t all that surprising, with West Jones avenging their placement from last weekend and earning a Grand Championship over Biloxi, the other divisions certainly held some noteworthy results. In the 2A division, Northeast Jones finished in third, giving way for South Jones to win the division. In the 1A division, Pass Christian finally got over the hump and topped West Marion, thereby ending their nine-straight divisional win streak and giving Luminary its first-ever divisional win. Biloxi’s womens group beat that of Purvis to round out the competition in the Single-Gender category. Final results are as below (No finals):

GC) West Jones “Imagination” (BV)

1RU) Biloxi “Sound Surge” (BC/Show Design)

2RU) South Jones “Company”

3RU) Sumrall “Legacy”

4RU) Biloxi “Sound Sirens”

1st in 3A) West Jones “Imagination”

1st in 2A) South Jones “Company”

1st in 1A) Pass Christian “Luminary”

1st in Single Gender) Biloxi “Sound Sirens”

DONELSON CHRISTIAN ACADEMY MUSIC CITY SHOW CHOIR INVITATIONAL

(Lake Forest Middle School)

Undoubtedly, the most shocking and astounding feat from this last weekend came from the competition in Tennessee. It was here that Lake Forest Middle School made show choir history, potentially becoming the first ever middle school show choir to claim an overall Grand Championship title over several high schools. Bradley Central was the top high school choir, followed by Rome, the small division winner and overall third place choir. Final results are below (No finals):

GC) Lake Forest MS “Revolution” (Sweep)

1st in Middle) Donelson Christian Academy “Legacy”

1st in Small) Rome “Grand Finale”

OUT OF TOWN

This last weekend, a couple of out-of-region events featured traveling southern show choirs. Starting off, Jackson Academy and Homewood Nexus both made the trip to Glenwood in Chatham, Illinois. Unfortunately, both groups missed finals in their respective divisions. Briarwood, Jackson Prep, and debuting group New Hope all traveled to Tennessee to compete at Heart of America Nashville, where Briarwood earned 1RU and Jackson Prep earned 4RU (New Hope also took Best Vocals in their division).
