Once Upon A Time In Hollywood: Music Showcase Produces Movie-Like Results

A rather eventful season came to a dramatic close at John Burroughs Music Showcase, as new champs were crowned, old rivals faced off, and surprises popped off at every turn.

Advanced Mixed 1

GC: Burbank "In Sync" (Best Musicianship)

1RU: Los Alamitos "Sound FX" (Best Showmanship)

2RU: American Leadership Academy "Evolution"

The top division at Burroughs really highlighted the narrow margins between the California Big Three. Los Alamitos had a no-caption win at Oceanside, and Burbank went home as the third-place group. A week later, Burbank comes out on top of the pack!

Advanced Mixed 2

GC: Cypress "High Voltage" (Best Musicianship)

1RU: Boulder Creek "Broadway Bound"

2RU: Valley Vista "Vocal Thunder" (Best Showmanship)

3RU: Chaparral "Platinum FX"

The West coast advanced 2 division has been growing steadily since the pandemic, but has really exploded late this year. Boulder Creek Broadway Bound is the newest addition to the list, with a very successful advanced debut with their second place finish. The biggest story, though, is the impressive late-season run by Cypress High Voltage. After their thunderous performance at Oceanside earned them a second place, they went after it even harder this weekend to earn their first GC in advanced. Cypress has improved dramatically throughout the season, and it will be very interesting to see if they can work out the kinks earlier next season and continue their success they found in 2025.

Intermediate Mixed

GC: Los Alamitos "Connexion" (Sweep)

1RU: Pacifica "Encore"

2RU: Oceanside "Soundwaves"

3RU: Helix "HLX"

4RU: Valley Vista "Voltage"

5RU: Valencia "Just 4 Show"

Pacifica had their perfect season spoiled by Los Al Connexion, as they sweep a pretty stacked field. Oceanside Soundwaves got their best possible result to end a rather turbulent season on a nice high note. Valencia makes the jump from novice to intermediate, but fails to place over the division mainstays.

Novice Mixed

GC: Western Sierra Collegiate Academy "The Alphas" (Sweep)

1RU: Eisenhower "Ike Singers"

2RU: Los Altos "LA Dynamix"

3RU: North Torrance "Northern Lights"

4RU: Monterey "Big Song"

Down go the Novice champions! The titans of the Novice division, Eisenhower Ike Singers, were felled by Western Sierra in a sweep victory. The Alphas improve in a big way after their last-place finish in Novice Mixed Small at Hart Encore earlier this season. They earn their first division win since 2020.

Advanced Treble

Tier 1

GC: Los Alamitos "Soundtrax" (Sweep)

1RU: Burbank "Blue Impressions"

Tier 2

GC: Los Alamitos "Xquisite" (Sweep)

1RU: Valley Vista "Tempest"

2RU: Boulder Creek "Heart & Soul"

3RU: Saugus "Blue Heat"

Trax and Xquisite expectedly sweep wins, as Los Al has been the class of both divisions this year. Saugus Blue Heat’s great run in its first season as a treble group ends with a small disappointment in a tougher division. Blue Heat made the move up all the way to advanced, which is a quick progression from a group that was in novice mixed last season.

Intermediate Treble

GC: Cypress "Pink Thunder" (Sweep)

1RU: Oceanside "High Seas"

2RU: American Leadership Academy "Rhapsody"

3RU: Valley Vista "Vortex"

Pink Thunder takes home its first win in a competitive division since Los Alamitos Xtravaganza in 2023. Rhapsody also placed solidly in their debut competition, and could be a force in the future if the group continues to grow.

Novice Treble

GC: Los Alamitos "Axcent" (Sweep)

1RU: Eisenhower "Ikettes"

2RU: Western Sierra Collegiate Academy "Sierra Serenade"

Los Al completes the competition clean sweep of prep divisions. The program totaled five division wins at Music Showcase, an impressive feat that is not likely to be duplicated any time soon.

Bass

GC: Los Alamitos "Xtreme" (Sweep)

1RU: Oceanside "Riptides"

While the win for Xtreme was expected, it was great to see Oceanside debut their bass group and lay groundwork for the future.
