Nebraska Show Choir Rankings (2/13/25)

By Thea Lierman, Nebraska contributor

Now that the season is in full motion, the competition is getting more intense as groups bring their best to the stage. Early-season surprises, breakout performances, and dominant showings have already made an impact, setting the tone for what’s shaping up to be an exciting season.

A panel of three regional experts analyzed 35 of Nebraska’s top show choirs to create the rankings. While divisions are mainly determined by NSAA cutlines, adjustments may be made for groups that compete across multiple divisions throughout the season.

  4. Gretna East “Equinox” (-1)

  5. Lincoln Southwest “Resonance” (-1)

  6. Lincoln East “Express” (NC)

  7. Grand Island Northwest “14 Karat Gold” (NC)

News and Notes

  • Westside remains a top contender despite their recent setback at the Papillion-La Vista South Titan Classic, where Gretna ended their winning streak. Even with the loss, Westside’s strong performances continue to keep them in the mix, proving they’re still a force to be reckoned with.

  • Elkhorn North is officially on the radar! After taking Grand Champion at the Elkhorn Red Carpet Classic, they’ve earned their spot in the rankings and are making a strong case for themselves this season.

  • Omaha South is on the rise. After an impressive third-place finish at the South Titan Classic, they took a massive five-spot jump in the rankings. With their momentum building, they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

  1. Elkhorn South “Shockwave” (2 first-place votes, +3)

  2. Millard West “Uptown” (1 first-place vote, NC)

News and Notes

  • Elkhorn South has now claimed the top spot in the rankings after a Grand Champion win in their division at the Papillion-La Vista South Titan Classic. This impressive victory propelled them past Westside, knocking Simply Irresistible down to third.

  • Papio Heart and Soul placed above Monarchy last weekend at Lincoln Southwest, boosting them to eighth in the rankings. While they didn't move past Monarchy, they did leapfrog Millard South.

  1. Wahoo “Royalty” (3 first-place votes, no change)

  2. Skutt Catholic “Vivace” (NC)

  3. Standing Bear “The Renegades” (NC)

  4. Plattsmouth “Out of the Blue” (+1)

  5. Aurora “Rhapsody” (-1)

    Receiving Votes: Blair "Ovation"

News and Notes

  • Plattsmouth moved ahead of Aurora in the rankings, despite both groups sitting out this past weekend’s competitions. The shift shows just how close the rankings are, with every performance counting towards the overall standings.

  • This coming weekend looks to be a quiet one, with no ranked groups facing off against each other. However, both Wahoo and Standing Bear will be competing at separate events, so there might be some shining performances as groups continue to make their mark this season.
