Mitchell Sweeps at Sing All About It

By Quinn Masek, Siouxland contributor

Sioux City East's annual Sing All About It competition brought in groups from surrounding states who wouldn’t normally be competing against each other. For some, this was their final competition of the season. For others, they’ve still got one more to go.

Prep Division

Grand Champion: Elkhorn South “Power Surge”

While being the only group in the division, Power Surge made its mark on Sioux City East. They ended up taking the Best Crew award out of all of the groups, which is something that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Womens Division

Grand Champion: Elkhorn South “Shockwave”

1st Runner Up: Bishop Heelan “Magnifique”

2nd Runner Up: Aberdeen Central “Special Request”

Aside from their first competition where the group got second in the division, Shockwave has dominated the womens division this season. Seeing a win here seems like a no-brainer. That being said, Magnifique has also had a successful season so far, making finals at Sioux Center in February. This was the first season since 2018 that Special Request has not won a single womens division, but they have run up against a slew of tough competitors this season.

Final Results

Grand Champion: Mitchell “Friend de Coup” (BV/BC/BB)

1st Runner Up: Bishop Heelan “Harmonia Mundi”

2nd Runner Up: Hastings “Riverside Company”

3rd Runner Up: Elkhorn South “Blackout”

4th Runner Up: Aberdeen Central “Eagle Express”

5th Runner Up: Elkhorn South “Shockwave”

Sixth place was a tossup between a few groups, but Shockwave did such a good job during the daytime that they earned a spot in finals. This was actually the group's first time making finals all season. They beat Harrisburg and Westwood to do so.

For the first time since 2022, Eagle Express finished a season winless. That’s definitely not something that should discourage anyone, as their Nostradamus-themed show was still exciting. Blackout was another group that finished its season here, going winless for the first time since 2020. Both Eagle Express and Blackout had extremely tough competition everywhere they went.

Riverside Company also saw an end to their season at Sioux City East, dropping from second in prelims to third in finals. Their Sandlot show brought them a lot of success over the season, including two grand championships.

Looking in from the outside, a casual observer might underestimate Harmonia Mundi. And it would be fair to do that. But this Catholic school’s program has grown a lot throughout the years, with this season’s “Everlasting Party” show being the best one they’ve done in a long time. It feels like a show Sioux City East would’ve done when Tom Hales was their director in the late 2010s and was dominating the Siouxland circuit. They still have one more competition, at Westwood this weekend, where they go up against Sioux City East and Omaha South.

After not attending this competition in 2024, Friend de Coup came back and swept. They even took a performer and soloist awards in the daytime, along with People’s Choice. It is truly a sign that with new director Nic Caberos, the program is in good hands. FDC ends its season this weekend at Wheaton Warrenville South, a tough end-of-season matchup.
