News and Notes

Domination with a side of Improvement at THE Event

Wheaton Warrenville South The Classics is a head above the rest of the field in Illinois at the moment, and with no matchup against Wheaton North this season, it seems there will be no contest to that thought. Mt. Zion Swingsations finished second in what many think could be the turning point of their season with two competitions remaining. They jumped El Paso-Gridley this week; however, with Modulations at Quincy and a matchup between them and Mt. Zion at Wheaton looming, it can very much flip back.

What’s Ahead?

Mt. Zion will be hosting a national competition that will feature two in-state choirs in Glenwood and Wheaton South. It will be their job to “protect the state” with Brandon, Loveland, Neosho, Grenada, and Troy traveling to the Midwest Invitational.

Quincy Showcase of Excellence will be where the rest of the pack is performing this weekend. El Paso-Gridley, Naperville North, and Wheaton North will all being getting a taste of each other for the first time this season.

Single-Gender

  1. Wheaton Warrenville South “Esprit” (3 first-place votes, NC)

  2. Mt. Zion “Les Femmes” (NC)

  3. Naperville North “Vivant” (NC)

  4. Danville “Contemporaires” (Not Ranked)

  5. El Paso-Gridley “Hi Fidelity” (NC)

Other Receiving Votes: Mt. Zion "You've Got Male"

News and Notes

The Top Three Hold After THE Event

Wheaton Warrenville South Esprit did what they do best — win. They beat the #2 and #3 choirs for the second time this season within a two week span. This weekend Esprit will be going to a rare national single-gender division at Mt. Zion, facing off against Brandon (MS), Neosho (MO), and Loveland (OH). They will most likely lock up the top spot for the rest of the season barring any crazy placements from the rest of the field. Mt. Zion Les Femmes stayed in two slot after defeating Naperville North a week after Vivant bested them at El Paso-Gridley. The voters' patience paid off in waiting to see if North could place higher than them for a second time.

You’ve Got Male OUT | Contemporaires IN

Mt. Zion You’ve Got Male started off the season hot with a solid second-place finish at Troy, one spot lower to their counterpart Les Femmes. Since then, they have run against a gauntlet of single gender choirs, knocking them into no placement territory for two straight competitions. It was only a matter of time until the Danville Contemporaries snagged that placement. Starting off the season with a win over El Paso-Gridley at Crete-Monee, they have slowly built a very solid resume against out-of-state competition. If they can hold their own at Avon and Brownsburg and You’ve Got Male’s farewell tour at Wheaton South doesn’t result in a top placement, Contemporaries might be here to stay.

Festival Mixed

  1. Sullivan “Singers” (3 first-place votes, NC)

  2. Crete-Monee “Cavaliers” (+1)

  3. Danville “Delegation” (-1)

  4. Herscher “Class Act”  (NC)

  5. Peoria “Soundwave” (NR)

Other Receiving Votes: Alan B. Shepard "Nova"

News and Notes

Indiana Competitions Shake Up Illinois Rankings

Sullivan vs Danville. Was going to be a battle between the top two choirs in the ranking resulted in a shake up giving Crete-Monee the second slot. Sullivan Singers rose to the occasion, snagging a second-place placement, only losing to small mixed powerhouse Roncalli. Danville, on the other hand, slipped. Delegation finished six in the division, beating one other group in Ben Davis’s freshman choir. While that madness was taking place, across the state Crete-Monee finished second in their division at Huntington North. This list is far from complete, as Sullivan will now have to defend the top spot against against #2 Crete-Monee at Quincy this weekend.
