Welcome back to another southern show choir preview. This week, the South will be holding three competitions, two in Alabama and one in Mississippi, so be sure to follow along for a breakdown of each event and the different storylines going on with the different competing groups.
OAK MOUNTAIN KING OF THE MOUNTAIN INVITATIONAL
Making its full-force re-entrance in dramatic fashion, the Oak Mountain King of the Mountain Invitational will be featuring four of the top ten ranked groups in the HomeRoom Southern Show Choir Rankings. These groups include Homewood, Grenada, Auburn, and Enterprise. What’s going to happen is honestly anyone’s guess, but as with any competition, there's still room for an educated prediction. The 2A/Middle Division looks to be a typical group of show choirs from Alabama with a Mississippi visitor in Pearl River Central in the mix, helping the community get a small idea as to how the two divisions compare across state lines. In 1A/Small Division, Oxford looks to bounce back against Chelsea and a handful of other groups. This competition also hosts an underrated single-gender category, as the womens groups from Enterprise, Homewood, and Auburn (along with others) will all compete against each other. Seemingly one of the best Southern competitions this season, this event looks to be action-packed throughout the entire day, so it's a great choice to attend for those within driving range. This competition will host two brand-new debuting show choirs, Leeds Emerald Voices and Carrollton Center for the Arts "The Carrollton Harmonix". The southern show choir scene is happy and excited to have new groups join in on the competition! Full predictions are as below:

NORTHEAST JONES CLASSIC
One word: revenge. Brandon will be seeking to win this competition convincingly and ensure last week’s results were a fluke, whereas West Jones will be standing their ground to let everyone know that the folks in Laurel are for real. Either way, plenty of eyes will be pending the result of this event (which, unlike the South Jones Invitational, has finals). Main card aside, we also get to see the season debut of South Jones, a steadily-rising middle division group over the last few years, where they’ll face off against Madison Central Radiance for not only the 2A crown but also maybe even a spot in finals. The 4A and Single Gender divisions, with Wayne County and Brandon respectively, are non-competitive (as is the 3A division with West Jones, but they’re not worried about their division at this competition). Full predictions are as below:

OPELIKA SOUTHERN SHOWCASE
While it might not be gaining as much traction as the other two competitions due to the absence of 4A/3A and Large/X-Large Division group firepower, this event certainly doesn’t lack a compelling storyline. This weekend, the community will likely either get to see Hoover’s first-ever Grand Championship or Albertville’s first Grand Championship since the end of the 2022 season. Not to mention, this competition features the debut of another group. After debuting a mixed group in 2023, Pike Road has continued to grow as a program and now adds a womens group, Panache, to its entourage. This competition also hosts a solid small-division bout set between West Marion, Eufaula, Tallassee, and Cleveland. Full predictions are as below:
Predictions (no finals):
GC) Hoover “Paradigm” (BV/BC/Show Design)
1st in Middle Division) Hoover “Paradigm”
1st in Small Division) West Marion “New Era”
1st in Single-Gender) Albertville “CenSations!”
Come right back here after the weekend is over for a dissection of all the results, whether they be chalk or upsets. Good luck to all the groups!
