We’re diving right into another week of high and tight competition within the southern show choir circuit. This week’s array of events feature the highly-anticipated Petal Show Choir Invitational and the Auburn Show Choir Showdown. With matchups between top southern groups and other extremely tense divisions spread all throughout, this weekend looks to be a good one, so stick with us as we take a dive into what’s going on at each competition.
PETAL SHOW CHOIR INVITATIONAL
This weekend's premier southern show choir competition is the Petal Show Choir Invitational. This event features a heavily-contested trio of favorites between the likes of Clinton, Brandon, and Grenada, who are all highly-competitive groups that have already claimed a win this season. This goes without mentioning we also have West Jones leading the other groups looking to upset these top three, with Enterprise, Jackson Prep, and Biloxi rounding out the bunch. In middle mixed, first place is more up-for-grabs than ever with the absence of Northeast Jones, and all four groups look to take advantage of this opportunity - Rome, South Jones, Pearl River Central, and Sumrall. It’s worth noting that just two of these groups have placed first in their division this season, so half the pool will be eager to claim their first top placement of the season. Not to mention that, in true southern show choir fashion, this competition hosts another extremely filled small division, with groups such as Pisgah, Laurel, Wayne County, and many others. This features our first matchup between Pisgah and West Marion this year, so that’ll be an extra storyline to follow in this tier.

AUBURN SHOW CHOIR SHOWDOWN
While the Petal Show Choir Invitational may be getting all the attention this week, it’s still worth looking over the state line at the Auburn Show Choir Showdown. Oak Mountain comes here as heavy favorites over the likes of Opelika and Tift County, both overall and in the single-gender division. While Oxford looks to run the small division here, the middle division favorites are much more questionable, with three out of the five groups having already won firsts in their division this year.
Predictions (five finalists):
GC) Oak Mountain “Singers” (BV/BC/Show Design)
1RU) Oak Mountain “The Muses”
2RU) Tift County “8th Street Singing Company”
3RU) Oxford “Sound”
4RU) Briarwood “Radica”
