This past weekend of competitions didn’t feature too many competitions or loaded divisions, but there was still plenty of action. For many groups, this weekend was the final competition of the year, making it all that more meaningful.
MADISON CENTRAL DEEP SOUTH CLASSIC
(@grenada_visions)
Madison Central featured slightly more competing choirs than Oak Grove. This year’s Deep South Classic saw Grenada outlast Tupelo to garner a grand championship and sweep, their second of the season. Northwest Rankin upset Jackson Academy to claim third overall, and their girls group upset top-ranked middle mixed group Northeast Jones to finish fifth overall. Pisgah also placed over Clinton Christian in small mixed. Final results are as below (overall placements, Deep South did not hold finals):
GC) Grenada “Visions” (BV/BC/Show Design)
1RU) Tupelo “Synergy”
2RU) Northwest Rankin “The Ambassadors”
3RU) Jackson Academy “Encore”
4RU) Northwest Rankin “The Allure”
1st in Small Division) Pisgah “Innergy”
OAK GROVE MAGNOLIA INVITATIONAL

While this competition featured little action in divisions except for the small division category, it did get to hold a special moment: Biloxi claimed not only their first-ever win, but a sweeping grand championship at that. Pearl River Central came next in second place, alone in the middle division category. As for the small division tier here, West Marion came on top of Wayne County and Laurel here, further separating themselves from their no-placement result from the Mississippi Show Choir Content earlier this season. Final results are as below (overall placements, Magnolia did not hold finals):
GC) Biloxi “Sound Surge” (BV/BC/Show Design)
1RU) Pearl River Central “Central Attraction”
2RU) West Marion “New Era”
3RU) Wayne County “Orange Sensations”
4RU) Laurel “Showstoppers”
Also from this past weekend, it’s worth noting that Briarwood put in a stellar performance at their Tennessee competition. Radica ended up claiming a win and sweep at the 2024 Donelson Christian Academy Music City Show Choir Invitational. It marked the second year in a row they won. Congratulations to Briarwood!
LOOKING FORWARD
As bittersweet as it is, the last weekend of southern competitions is just around the corner. This last weekend of the southern season hosts two competitions, the Tift County Peach State Invitational and the Biloxi Gulf Coast Classic. While Georgia competitions are normally considered just outside of the heart of the southern circuit (along with Tennessee and Texas events), this specific competition marks an exception. It hosts a large number of southern groups, with two of them being two of the top groups from the south - Oak Mountain and Brandon. Last time these two groups faced off against each other, Oak Mountain placed atop Brandon at FAME Orlando in 2022, so it’ll be exciting to see how they both finish their season. Down in Biloxi, Petal looks to be the looming favorite with visitors from Alabama (Opelika) and Texas (Keller Central) seeking the spoil the weekend. Not to mention that, in true southern fashion, we’ll get another tight pool of groups in the middle and small division tiers to finish off the season. Last but certainly not least, Tupelo will also be traveling to Heart of America Nashville to end their season while seeking revenge from last year's results. This last weekend of events looks to be entertaining all round, so stick with us as we get ready to say goodbye to the 2024 southern show choir season. Good luck to all the competing groups, and happy show choir season y’all!
Next Week’s Events:
Tift County Peach State Invitational (Tifton, Ga.)
Biloxi Gulf Coast Classic (Biloxi, Miss.)
