Announcing the 6th Annual Show Choir Madness

Updated: Mar 18

Show Choir Madness is truly at the heart of what HomeRoom Show Choir is. No, we’re not talking about that basketball tournament happening this upcoming week. We’re talking about the single-elimination voting tournament that takes place each spring.

The first edition of Show Choir Madness happened in 2020. It was designed to lift morale and create some form of competitive aspect after the pandemic robbed many students of at least a portion of their season.

Madness is a 68-choir tournament that follows standard single-elimination rules, with the exception of four ‘play-in’ matchups to determine the final entrants into the field.

All voting will be done in embedded webpage forms. Polls will be considered ‘active’ for 24 hours after the webpage is published, although viewers of the webpage may still be able to vote for a time after. Voting will start at noon of the scheduled round date, and end at noon the following day.

Voting Dates:

First 4:

March 18-19

Round of 64:

March 20-21

Round of 32:

March 23-24

Round of 16:

March 25-26

Round of 8:

March 27-28

Round of 4:

March 30-31

Championship:

April 2-3

Selected show choirs were chosen and seeded based on various factors. Inclusion of a choir should not in any way be interpreted as an endorsement of HomeRoom Show Choir by that choir.

A full bracket can be viewed at: https://challonge.com/ymfzg5ae.svg

Play-in

Sparta "Upstage Adrenaline" vs. West Jones “Imagination”

Northwest Rankin "The Ambassadors" vs. Fishers "Electrum"

Keller "Blue Lights" vs. El Paso-Gridley "Modulations"

Webb City "Singers" vs. Cedar Rapids Kennedy "Happiness, Inc"

Play-in voting will occur on March 18. Round of 64 voting will occur on March 20. The 6th Annual Show Choir Madness winner will be announced on April 3. All active voting polls can be found at https://www.homeroomshowchoir.com/blog/categories/show-choir-madness

Putting Lin Mar and Center Grove in the same bracket is madness. I have seen both. Lin Mar had remarkable choreography, a unique story, and stage (that took far too long to set up). Center Grove followed last year's tribute to the English Monarchy with a show built around Montmartre Paris (1900s) this year. Their vocals were exceptional and the set was impressive. That one will be eliminated that early is a shame. Caveat: I have not see a ton of teams in that bracket, so I am not qualified to say whether there is another that has an argument against either.
